Brad Johnson whose real name is James Bradley Johnson was born on September 13, 1968, in Marietta, Georgia. His parents were Grove Johnson, his father, and Virginia Johnson, his mother.
He went to Charles D. Owen High School and was an All-American and All-State football and basketball player. Johnson joined the 1992 NFL Draft, and was selected by the Minnesota Vikings during the ninth round – he would appear sporadically in the next two years. In 1994, he became the backup to Warren Moon and would start to find more playing time. The following year he also joined the World League team, the London Monarchs before returning to the Vikings. In 1996, he would then earn NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors, playing in place of Moon when he was injured. He made his postseason debut in the NFC Wild Card game but lost against the Dallas Cowboys.
