Mary J. Blige was born in the Bronx, New York, on January 11, 1971, to Cora and Thomas Blige. Her father, Thomas Blige, and mother, Cora, gave birth to her. Her father is a jazz musician, while her mother works as a nurse.  After she and her older sister LaTonya Blige-DaCosta were born, her parents divorced. Cora, Mary’s mother, had two more children from a previous relationship after their divorce. Bruce Miller and Jonquil are her half-siblings.
