Luis Miguel Gallego Basteri, better known as just Luis Miguel, was born on April 18, 1970, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. His father, Luis Gallego

Sanchez (better known as Luisito Rey), was a Spanish singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His mother, Marcela Basteri, was an Italian actress.

Miguel’s father planned for the moving of his son to Mexico at a young age, and market him and his music towards a Mexican audience. This is

why Miguel began his musical career at the tender young age of eleven.

Miguel’s father contributes much to the success of Luis. He was made to watch every recording and concert performance of late American singer,

Elvis Presley during his childhood years.

Miguel release his first album, “Un Sol”, in 1982, through the Mexican branch of EMI Records. This was a great success and he won the first disc

when he was just eleven years old.  He also releases consecutive albums namely: “Directo al Corazon” (1982), “Ya Nunca Mas” (1983), “Decidete”

(1983), “Palabra de Honor” (1984), and “Fiebre De Amor” (1985). In 1984he teamed up with singer Sheena Easton on the duet “Me Gustas Tal

Como Eres” (I Like You Just The Way You Are). 

He fired his father in 1987 due to poor financial decisions and mismanagement. He was later signed with Warner Records and started working

with Juan Carlos Calderon.

He released his eighth studio album “Romance” in 1991. After three years in 1994, he dropped a sequel to his previous album Romance, which

was titled “Segundo Romance”. Then his ninth studio album  “Amarte Es Un Placer” in 1999.

In 2010, he released his self-titled 19th studio album. Miguel became the most expensive artist in the history of the Vina del Mar International

Song Festival when he performed on February 22, 2012.

April 2018,  the self-titled series on Luis Miguel started airing on Netflix and Telemundo.
